Accessing the RailbedWe had a hell of a time trying to find the access point to the trail. We drove all over until we met some off-road enthusiasts, who gave us spot-on directions.
Once you're parked and ready to get started, look for a talus slope across from where you have parked. Proper footwear is highly recommended for this journey. In the photo above, you can see a path going up the slope. ![]() At the top of slope, a well-worn trail leads through an open area up to the old railbed. Once you reach the old right-of-way turn left. The whole right-of-way is now heavily overgrown. It is easy walking until you reach the east end of a tunnel. The tunnel has caved in. As you walk along, you can see places where the old railbed has been supported by retaining walls. ![]() At the east portal of the tunnel, you need to go up and over. This is not for the faint of heart! Once you reach the top, the bridge is directly visible, but you must be careful. One false move and you will end up in the canyon. To reach the bridge, you need to work your way down along the edge of the canyon wall. There are some cables in place, but they are not to be trusted. ![]() From the photo above, you can see how steep parts of the mountains are. This is the west portal. The trail along the canyon wall is to right. The view from this area is fantastic. I have a problem with heights so I did not even attempt to cross to the other side. ![]() With some volunteer work, the access to the Ladner Creek Trestle would be a great place for everyone to visit and explore some of BC's history! |
